Passengers traveling on a Wizz flight from Italy to  Romania found themselves without their baggage after handlers apparently switched it to a different flight by mistake.

Passengers flew from Bologna and arrived early Wednesday in the northeast city of Iasi only to discover their baggage was not in the arrivals’ hall, airport spokeswoman  Elena Troia said.

The mix-up happened at the airport in Bologna, Italy,  when handlers put their luggage on a flight to Chisinau, the capital of neighboring Moldova, Digi 24 reported.

Over the border in Moldova, passengers on a flight to Chisinau found themselves in the same situation. Their luggage had landed in Iasi, about 150 kilometers away.

„The airline which operated the Bologna – Iaşi flight on August 4 says all passengers that they can recover their baggage shortly,” the spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Agerpres.

She also said luggage that should have arrived on the plane to Chisinau had landed in Iasi.

„Most probably, the staff who handled the luggage mixed it up,” she added.

More than a million Romanians and Moldovans live in Italy.

Many moved there for better-paid jobs, and better opportunities and living conditions. Romanian, which is also spoken in Moldova, is similar to Italian and shares the same Latin roots.
