Romanian refrigerator factory closes after dozens test positive for coronavirus

A Romanian refrigerator manufacturing factory has closed after dozens of employees tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Arctic, a market leader in Romania, which is a subsidiary of Turkish group Arcelik, has temporarily closed its plant in Gaesti southern Romania, after 66 workers were diagnosed with the virus.

The company carried out tests on a number of workers after the first case was confirmed on May 7, Digi24 reported.

Employees will be furloughed during the temporary shutdown, the company said.

The factory employs 4,000 workers and is a leader on the Romanian market and well as exporting appliances.

The production of freezers will resume on June 2, and the factory will start producing refrigerators again next Monday.
