The “Nadia Comăneci” gym was inaugurated on Saturday north of Bucharest in the presence of interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and the legendary gymnast herself.
Nadia Comăneci entered the history books when she was awarded the first ever perfect 10 in the history of gymnastics on July 18, 1976 when she obtained a 10 at the Olympic Games in Montreal.
We are grateful,” said interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan who attended the launch of the gym in the town of Otopeni was built by the Ion Tiriac Foundation.
“Thank all those who are responsible people and make a contribution to each community. Usually, the people who have represented and represent Romania with dignity are high-performance … and responsible people,” Bolojan said.
The government has approved the modernization of the Onesti Municipal Sports Club, the place where Nadia Comăneci was born and started her career.
It will have an updated gymnastics hall, a place dedicated for weightlifting and heavy wrestling, tennis court, accommodation, meals and recovery for athletes and coaches, locker rooms, administrative spaces, conference room and museum.
Some 122 million le has been earmarked and the project will take an estimated 2 years.
