The Saharian wind that blew into Cluj

On Tuesday morning, the sky over Cluj-Napoca turned an unusual shade of yellow.

Meteorologists informed the city’s stupefied population that the dust particles responsible for this phenomenon came all the way from the Sahara Desert.

Saharan dust is an aeolian mineral dust produced by means of sand storms and can travel thousands of kilometres, impelled by wind. This tends to happen particularly in Fall and Spring – as was the case in Romania on April 2.

Reports say that the same phenomenon was visible in several cities in Spain – which were more affected than Cluj, in that locals had to wipe the dust which had settled on their cars off.
