Travel bookings to Romania up by two-thirds this summer

Travel bookings to Romania thus summer increased by two-thirds compared to 2021 when pandemic restrictions deterred people from traveling, a travel-tech company said.

Kiwi.com which shares travel data on tourusts coming to Romania said the number of tourists was 67.7% higher than last year, even as the price of flights increased by 42.2%.

The top 5 countries for visiting Romania are Israel, the UK, Italy, France and Germany. Britain replaced Spain from last year’s top 5.

Tourists from the U.S.. Hungary and Canada also visited Romania.

Kiwi.com looked at bookings from Jan.1- Aug.15 for visits between June 1st – August 31st.

According to Kiwi.com, Bucharest is the most visited city in Romania, with 58.8% of tourists stopping in the capital.

The Transylvanian city of Cluj was next, with 11.5% opting for it followed by Iasi in the northeast which 8.5% of tourists visited. Most came from London and Dublin.Tourists arrived from Tel Aviv, London, Vienna, Brussels and Milan. Compared to 2021, London and Tel Aviv switched positions, while Milan replaced Madrid as a top 5 origin city for Bucharest.

 

This year, tourists opted for shorter stays this summer. About one-third of tourists that booked a return flight spent less than 3 days in Romania while 25% stayed for 4 to 6 days,  compared to 30% and 18%, respectively, in 2021.

Most tourists booked their summer stays in Romania between 3 weeks and 2 months in advance, while 17% decided on last-minute deals.
