Romania reports two-month high of Covid-19 deaths

Romania on Tuesday reported 184 Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day number of fatalities in more than two months,

The number of new cases shot up to 36,269 in the past day, a near-pandemic high.

The highest number of infections in a 24-hour period was 40,018 on Feb. 1, exactly a week ago.

The infection rate in the capital soared to almost 33 per 1,000 residents on Monday.

Covid patients needing intensive care treatment across Romania rose to 1,123 on Tuesday.

Some 967 of them were unvaccinated.

The vast majority of patients who died were hadn’t been immunized.  Only one Covid fatality was  vaccinated and didn’t have any underlying health conditions.

Romania registered 195 Covid-19 deaths on November 24.
