Covid deaths and intensive care cases on the rise in Romania

Romanian registered 108 Covid-19 deaths in the last day, while the number of patients needing intensive care treatment rose to over 1,000.

The  Strategic Communication Group said  Saturday there were almost 29,000 new Covid-19  cases in the last 24 hours, almost 3,000 less than the previous day.

About one-third of people who were tested came out positive.

There were 1,042 patients in intensive care units.

This month has seen more than 90 deaths a day with a high of 111 on Feb. 3.

Cases have soared in the capital in recent weeks and the infection rate rose to 28.21 per 1,000, up from 26.42 the previous day.

The infection rate is calculated over a 14-day rolling period.

Bucharest posted a massive 8,957 cases in the last day, while Cluj county had 2,339 cases.

Timis county had the highest infection rate of 28.52 cases followed by Bucharest and then Cluj which had 27.32.

The infection rate has risen across Romania with no exceptions.
