Coronavirus cases pass 20,000 in Romania, new cases dip below 200

Coronavirus cases in Romania passed 20,000 on Friday, while new cases dropped below 200 after a rise the previous day.

The Strategic Communication Group said there had been 20,103 cases since the outbreak started and 196 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.

After almost three weeks where the daily count was lower than 200, there was a spike in cases on Thursday, with 238 recorded over the previous day.

Some 1,308 have succumbed to the virus, most of them with underlying health conditions.

There are currently 152 people being treated in intensive care.

Some 14, 145 patients have recovered from the virus.

There are almost 2,400 people in institutionalized quarantine and nearly 96,000 in self-isolation at home under medical supervision.

Some 485,000 tests have been carried out.
