Israel and Iran inch dangerously close to war

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has said that Israel, supported by the United States, killed Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh during the swearing-in of Iran’s new president using a “short-range projectile” launched from outside of his accommodation in Tehran. In response, Iran has publicly swore revenge for Hannah and that Israel would receive “a severe punishment at the appropriate time, place and manner”.

Iran and Hamas will likely join forces to take this threat to completion.

In April, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel, 99% of which Israel said it intercepted.

This was less than two weeks after a suspected Israeli strike in Syria killed two Iranian generals.

It marks the first time Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel, despite decades of enmity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.

To curb the threat, the US has announces that it will deploy additional warships and fighter jets to the Middle East to help defend Israel from possible attacks by Iran and its proxies.

The deployments will include additional ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers, says the Pentagon.
