Romania has posted a record high of 7,733 new cases of coronavirus, easily surpassing the previous record.

The Strategic Communication Group said the death tally of the past 24 hours stood at 120, which was also the highest single-day figure.

Some 30,336 tests were carried out giving a ‘positivity rate’ of  25.4%, a high rate for a weekday.

In another negative record, authorities said there were 974 SARS-CoV-2 patients were being treated in intensive care units.

President Klaus Iohannis is due to make an announcement later Tuesday where he will likely address the epidemic and public health concerns.

Bucharest posted 762 new cases on Tuesday, more than anywhere else, and four counties had in excess of 200 cases. The remote Satu Mare region which is in northwest Romania didn’t record a single new case in the past day.

Seventy men and 50 women died in the past 24 hours in hospitals all over the country.

One patient was in their 30s, three were in their 40s, seven in their 50s, 34 in their 70s and 37 people were older then 80.

Just six didn’t have underlying health issues such as cancer or diabetes.

There are about 58,000 people  self isolating at home after traveling to Covid-19-stricken areas.
