“Given Ukraine’s difficult situation, the European Union provides additional support from member states by covering the interest rate costs. The interest … will be borne by member states through …. voluntary contributions,” according to a Romanian government resolution.
The 50 million euros will come from Romania’s state budget and will be paid between 2024-2027.
In December 2022, the European Union agreed on the macro-financial assistance of up to 18 billion euros or Ukraine for 2023, in the form of loans. It was agreed that guarantees and interest on the loans will be provided by the EU budget and member states.
National contributions were calculated based on the share of each member state in the total gross national income of the European Union.
