Roughly half of approximately 864,000 children living in rural Romania live in families that report not having enough money for basics from one month to another.
These are the sad results of an ample study released by World Vision Romania.
38% of households with children in the rural area bought food on credit in the past year.
58% of households do not buy cosmetic products for children.
What’s worse, 29% of children do not use hygiene products.
That’s because over 42% of households (with children) do not have salary incomes and depend on social aid, pensions or irregular income sources.
The situation has compelled 19% of those households to make the decision to send a parent to work abroad.
3 out of 10 parents in poor communities did not send their children to kindergarten in the last year, simply because there was no money for clothing.
62% of rural children work in some capacity, while 41% report no desire to attend high school – but want to get jobs, or to work in the family or attend training courses.
The standard monthly cost for a child (excluding care, education and health expenses) is 595 lei per month, equal to not even 125 USD.
