Russia says Romania is secretly shipping arms to Ukraine

Russia has accused Romania of secretly shipping arms to Ukraine to help the war effort there.

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zaharova on Friday publicly called on the government in Bucharest to acknowledge it was sending arms shipment pretending it was ‘humanitarin aid’,  Agerpres reported.

Ms Zaharova referred to “Romanian-made shells” allegedly used by Ukrainian soldiers .

“Bucharest avoids publicity in these matters, preferring to tell the Romanian and international community exclusively about ‘humanitarian’ support for Ukraine. Now it is clear what the word „humanitarian” means,” she said at a  press conference.

It is not the first time that Moscow accused Romania of its involvement in the conflict.

Russia’s defense ministry in April claimed that Romania was one of a number of countries sending mercenaries to Ukraine, putting the figure at 1,500.

She cited a alleged conversation between Romanian defense minister Vasile Dâncu and his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov as proof of her claims.

Romania sent aid, fuel, and ammunition worth several million euros after the Feb. 24 invasion.

„Shipping arms to Ukrainian nationalists to fight their own people only prolongs the conflict (if Bucharest doesn’t know that) and causes more victims.”
