Tens of thousands of bargain Christmas trees on sale in Romania

Romania’s national forest company will sell more than 30,000 Christmas trees at a bargain price for the holiday sesaon.

Romsilva said on Thursday its prices range from 15 lei (about three euros) for a for a tree up to 1.3 meters and 35 lei (roughly 7 euros)  for bigger trees that are between 2 and 3 meters high.

Its biggest trees_ one that stand more than 3 meters high_ have to be specially ordered, News.ro  reported.

The prices are considerably cheaper than trees sold outside Romanian shopping malls and markets, which start at about 100 lei and can cost several hundred lei for a large tree.

Romsilva said almost 22,000 trees come its nurseries, with the rest cut down in areas where there is “an excessive density,” of trees.

More than 22,00 trees are fir and about 8,000 are spruce and other coniferous evergreens.

Romanians start to put up trees on Dec. 1 which is the country’s national day.
