There’s a hurricane in Florida

Hurricane Debby arrived in Florida with what the media have called “nocturnal tornadoes”.

These are particularly dangerous as they are obscured by the darkness of night, and have a much higher fatality rate than their daylight counterparts.

Residents should certainly stay on the lower floors of their buildings.

Trees uprooted by winds could also pose a risk.

This is the third tropical storm the tropics experience this season – making it a very active one.

Ocean temperatures are said to be higher than usual.

Debby is currently between and 1 and 2 category storm.

Georgia and South Carolina will also be affected, but it seems from the current trajectory that northern Florida will bear the brunt.

Flooding could last until Friday.
