Unfortunately, I’ll save you time: only a third of documents have been released, and these are at first glance inconclusive.
Professional and amateur historians immediately hopped on the thousands of pages released by Trump, but found little new information.
Are these the emperor’s new clothes?
Then again, some have already pointed out that the documents simply weren’t revealed for such a long time because doing so would have vulnerablized the CIA by disclosing its methods, not because they contain inflammatory materials. Still, it’s hard to believe that it was clear what exactly happened and why.
Of course, there are 80,000 pages. Even if the lack of immediate revelation is disappointing, connecting the dots may take some time.
What it does infirm is the belief that Lee Harvey Oswald was a KGB agent.
Interestingly, the files is a memo from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover pointing out the fact that Oswald was killed two days after the assassination may make it challenging to “convince the public that Oswald is the real assassin”.
In any case, public interest in this case is by no means dead, and doesn’t seem likely to fade soon.
