Amazon is to lay off a number of 14,000 corporate workers, many of whom are from HR.

Unnamed source forewarn twice this number of layoffs in total.

More jobs will be cut in an effort to reverse a pandemic hiring spree, which coincided with a pandemic online shopping spree.

Costs much be cut, and Amazon’s CEO particularly warned white-collar employees to be ready to be replaced by artificial intelligence.

This echoes Trump’s efforts to reduce bureaucracy on a federal level, as well as his attack on remote workers, who he accuses of slacking off.

Of the 14,000 laid off, most are corporate employees.

Amazon has a whopping 1.55 million employees.

In summary, Amazon justifies this by the appearance of AI, which has made many jobs simply redundant. Microsoft, Meta and Alphabet feel similarly and have laid off tens of thousands of employees since AI first reared its head.

Shares rose 1.2% after  reports of job cuts.
