Zelensky to meet with European Commission chief in Kyiv ‘sometime ‘ Friday

David SASSOLI - EP President meets with Ursula von der LEYEN - President-elect of the European Commission

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Friday.

The visit to the Ukrainian capital comes a day before a Stand Up For Ukraine event in Warsaw, which Ms von der Leyen is due to attend, chief spokesman Eric Mamer wrote on Twitter.

„I cannot tell you the exact time due to security reasons. But sometime during the day, the President of Ukraine will meet with Ursula von der Leyen,” Nikiforov told Ukrainian TV program „UAtogether” on Thursday, CNN reported.

That event, jointly organized by the Commission president and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will raise money for Ukrainian refugees.

Last week, the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola met with the Ukrainian leadership in Kyiv.

Last month, three of central Europe’s prime ministers — Poland’s Mateusz Morawiecki, the Czech Republic’s Petr Fiala and Slovenia’s Janša  also traveled to Kyiv to  meet Mr. Zelensky and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Mr Zelensky has invited other world leaders to come, writing on social media that he wanted “all friends of Ukraine to visit Kyiv.”
