22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson has been identified as prime suspect for yesterday’s public assassination of conservative polemicist Charlie Kirk.
He was arrested after Utah investigators analyzed surveillance footage, interviewing his family members and reviewing online messages between Robinson and his roommate.
Yesterday’s killing, enormously dangerous in its putting over 3,000 innocent people in danger, shot off a manhunt among local, state and federal authorities.
Officials reports that one of Tyler Robinson’s family members had a friend contact police with the information that he had more or less confessed.,
Meanwhile, investigators interviewed Robinson’s roommate, who showed authorities messages on Discord between Robinson and his roommate.
The messages associated with the name Tyler state “a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush,” engraving bullets, “having left the rifle wrapped in a towel” and “a mention of a scope and the rifle being unique” — plainer evidence, and in line with the fact that authorities recovered a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” in the woods off campus.
The Mauser Model 98 30-06 rifle had a scope mounted on top of it.
CCTV shows Robinson arrived at Utah Valley University the morning of the day Kirk was shot.
On the other hand, pressure placed on police to find the killer as soon as possible was enormous.
Robinson is not officially affiliated with any political party.
“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him — in custody … everyone did a great job we worked with the local police, the governor, everybody did a great job,” US President Donald Trump was quick to say, though he did make the caveat he is “always subject to be corrected.”
Turning Point USA, Kirk’s organisation, has not publicly commented on the arrest or the identification of the suspect, but mused that Kirk had faced “thousands of threats throughout his life”.
