More than 40% of Romanians think their country should join Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, a new survey shows.

Donald Trump invited Romania to join the Board of Peace but President Nicușor Dan has not given  a decisive answer and says he is still thinking about it.

The condition for a permanent seat on this council is the payment of an amount of 1 billion dollars. Chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party, Sorin Grindeanu says  Romania should pay the membership fee.

Questioned on this subject by Avangarde, most Romanians said “yes” (44%), while 36% oppose it. Another 20% are undecided.

Donald Trump launched the “Peace Council” on Thursday in Davos, the initiative that was initially intended to help end the war in Gaza, but has come to have a broader which Europe and some other countries consider a rival or a threat to the United Nations (UN).

On another issue, almost half of those surveyed say they are “dissatisfied” or “very dissatisfied” with the foreign policy pursued by President Nicușor Dan.

Seven out of ten Romanians say that the president should have gone to the Davos Economic Forum that took place this week.

  • The survey was conducted by Avangarde between January 22-23 using the CATI method on a sample of 820 people over 18 years old. The maximum sampling error is 3.3% at a 95% confidence level.
  • Avangarde is a market research institute led by Marius Pieleanu, a sociologist who publicly said this week, in an intervention on Antena3, that “it would be wise” for the PSD to leave the government because this way “it would immediately bring 500 thousand voters” to the party.
