Writer Mircea Cartarescu will have two book releases in Stockholm on Wednesday and Thursday of this week for his newly translated and published prose volume, Melancolia/Melancholia, as sponsored partially by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm.
Cartarescu’s book is published by Albert Bonniers and is translated by Inger Johansson, who has translated nine other books by Cartarescu into Swedish.
On Wednesday at 17:00, Mircea Cartarescu will be at the Soderbokhandeln Hansson & Bruce bookstore in downtown Stockholm (Gotgatan 37), reading from Melancolia in Romanian and accompanied in Swedish by author Martina Lowden. At the end of the event, which will be moderated by Albert Bonniers Förlag’s editor, Lina Ryden Reynols, Cartarescu will sign autographs for his readers.
On Thursday, a 18:00, Inger Johansson will hold a literary debate at RCI Stockholm with Swedish journalist and writer Cecilia Hansson. Cartarescu will share his experience of writing Melancolia and will take questions from the public.

Aripa dreapta/Blinding – The Right Wing (2008), Orbitor.Corpul/Blinding. The Body (2006), Orbitor. Aripa stanga/Blinding – The Left Wing (2004), Nostalgia (2002, 2023). His poetry anthology, entitled O zi fericita din viata mea/A Happy Day in My Life appeared in 2008, translated by Dan Shafran & Lars-Inge Nilsson, reports Agerpres.
Melancolia was met with laudatory reviews in the most prestigious Swedish publications and, according to Svenska Dagbladet, ranks first on the current list of the best literary books in this country.
