Concert experience series held at Kalnoky Castle this autumn – winter

Located in the scenic village of Micloșoara, Kalnoky Castle is hosting an ongoing series of concerts through year’s end in its “CandleGlow Castle Concerts”.

Guests are invited to experience live music in a historic setting, participating in a revival of hospitality traditions championed by the noble family managing the estate, says the Castle.

Every second Saturday, the castle’s wine cellar becomes a candlelit stage for classical and contemporary performances, creating what the organisers a magical Renaissance atmosphere. But themes, in contrast, are modern: upcoming performances spotlight ‘Star Wars’, ‘Psycho’, ‘Schindler’s List’, and ‘The Pianist’, as well as a Taylor Swift tribute, a ‘Game of Thrones’ night, a Christmas Special and a New Year Concert featuring Queen and Metallica ballads.

Concertgoers may choose between two formats: an afternoon Prosecco concert at 4:00 PM or a concert paired with a Transylvanian dinner from 7:00 PM.

A Halloween Special concert will take place on 1st of November.

The series features celebrated local talents, such as pianist Szőcs Botond, cellists Ferencz Tihamér and Győrbiró Apor, violinist Gáspár Csaba, and pianist Kertész János.

Tickets are available from Eventim.

Originally built in 1645 and recently restored in Renaissance style, the Kalnoky Castle now houses the Transylvanian Life Museum, which vividly recreates noble life of past centuries. The museum features a curated collection of furnishings, period costumes, stoves, and Turkish carpets that evoke the elegance of the era.

The museum highlights the legacy of the Kalnoky family, with historical artifacts including Turkish-era weaponry, fine furniture, and a rare Streicher piano. The ground floor of the former hunting manor hosts exhibits such as “The Lady’s House,” illustrating the daily life of noblewomen, and “The Master’s House,” displaying weapons and artifacts from historical conflicts.

Managed by the Kalnoky Foundation, the museum and castle represent a vision to preserve and celebrate Transylvanian noble heritage. Funded by the European Economic Area and the Romanian Government, the museum project from 2014 to 2017 supports regional tourism and cultural revitalization.

The concert series takes place in the cellar, which doubles as a dining space.
