Days short of turning 99 years old, actor Dick Van Dyke stars in Coldplay’s music video for All My Love.
In the seven minute “Directors Cut”, Van Dyke reminisces about his life with director Spike Jonze. Viewers wander through his home, seeing memorabilia from his movies, like the life-size replica of Van Dyke’s famous Mary Poppins performance.
The star also recreates the “Twizzle” from his sitcom while Coldplay lead Chris Martin serenades him on the patio of his house.
Van Dyke gazes lovingly at a photo of his daughter Stacy being read a bedtime story, and reveals: “I’ve had dreams where I’m depressed or lonely or hurt, and she comes to comfort me. She actually comes to comfort me.”
He speaks of all four of his children, and dozens of his grandchildren appear, singing and dancing with their grandfather.
The video ends with Martin improvising a song, as Van Dyke watches on.
In an interview on the US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Martin revealed that he and Van Dyke have been friends and neighbors in California.
In June 2024, Van Dyke became the oldest ever Emmy award winner as he strutted down the red carpet, smiling and waving.
As regards the inevitable, Van Dyke mused in an interview at his home: “I’m not afraid of it,” he added. “I have the feeling that I’m gonna be alright”.
