Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had called on Western allies to deliver more air defence systems after at least eight people were killed in a Russian drone strike on Odessa.

A four-month-old baby and a three-year-old child were among the eight victims of the overnight drone strike in Odessa.

A nine-story building was destroyed. People are still being pulled out of the rubble.

Ukraine’s air force said it had downed 14 or 17 drone launched by Russia overnight.

Russian forces have has launched thousands of Iranian-made drones at Ukrainian targets since they invaded Ukraine over two years ago.

In retaliation Ukraine has targeted Russian sites, notably oil facilities. Also on Saturday, a drone hit a similar residential building in St. Petersburg – though nobody was killed.

Russian troops have recently made gains in Ukraine, which is facing arms shortages.

Ukraine’s commander-in-chief has signalled he will replace some military leaders on the eastern front.

President Zelensky has stated that only Western support in air defence can save innocent lives.

Today is Navalny’s funeral…
