Roads and schools were closed in northeast Romania after heavy snowfalls and trains had severe delays in some places.

The capital, Bucharest, which has enjoyed a mild winter so far was not spared the sub-zero snap. Temperatures ranging from -3…-2 degrees Celsius to -7…-6 degrees Celsius are expected over the next day.

The weather will warm up on Thursday, before dipping and rising again. No major snowfalls are forecast.

This week, blizzards hit northeastern Romania, and a pregnant woman living in a rural area in Vaslui County was forced to give birth at home after the ambulance got stuck in the snow.

A nurse in traveling in the ambulance managed to reach the woman using an off-road vehicle. The mother and her newborn were finally taken to hospital after an eight-hour intervention.
