Probably in light of the USA warning that it intends to cut off aid for Ukraine, Germany’s new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has promised Kiev Berlin’s help in producing long-range missiles.
When asked by reporters if it was Taurus missiles that would be made, he responded: “We want to talk about production and we will not publicly discuss details”.
Taurus missiles have a deeper range than other far-range missiles.
Merry has only been in office for a month, but has long made his support for Ukraine known — and now has proudly declared that range restrictions impeding Western allies have now been lifted.
The Kremlin has warned that any decision to end range restrictions on the missiles that Ukraine can use would be a quite dangerous change in policy that would harm efforts to reach a political deal.
Olaf Scholz hemmed and hawed on the topic of Ukraine more than Merz seems to.
Merz has gone so far as to promise to support Ukraine as long as is necessary — particularly given that peace talks have been stalling for a discouragingly long amount of time, even with Donald Trump’s patience wearing thinner and thinner.
Ukraine’s president has urged Washington to impose sanctions on Russia’s banking and energy sectors. He said he had discussed the issue with Trump, adding that the US president had “confirmed that if Russia does not stop, sanctions will be imposed”.
Now, Ukraine’s military has reported one of its largest overnight drone barrages over Russia, in response to 900 drones from Russia.
Russia is said to have snapped up villages along the Ukrainian border to create “security buffet zones”.
Presently, Russia controls a fifth of Russia.
