Heatwave blasts south and east Romania

A heatwave will hit parts of Romania on Tuesday with temperatures forecast to climb to 42 Celsius in the south and east, the hottest days of the year so far.

Meteorologists have issued a red warning code—the highest-level warning for the soaring temperatures which will affect the capital, Bucharest and eight other counties in the south and southeast.

The temperature will be felt by up to ten degrees more by the body and people have been advised to wear loose, light-colored clothing and avoid going out in the hottest hours.

It is possible to feel well above 40 degrees Celsius, given that in the two previous heatwaves, with 38 degrees in the shade, it felt like felt 45 degrees due to a high humidity.”

“In these conditions, discomfort will be particularly high… especially in the areas with orange and red codes. Tuesday and Wednesday are, the hottest days of this summer so far”, the director of the National Meteorological Administration, Elena Mateescu said.

The National Meteorological Agency (AMN) has issued a Red Code warning of heatwave for the counties of Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Ialomița, Brăila and Călărași as well as Bucharest.
