Romanian hotels along the Black Sea coast are offering promotional prices for September in a bid to attract late holidaymakers while the weather and water are still warm.

Seaside

Traditionally, Romanians go to the seaside for their holidays in July and August. They then abandon the coast and opt for breaks at the mountains and other destinations.

But the weather is staying warmer for longer with climate warming. Some people are choosing a slower-paced and cheaper vacation, meaning hotels are staying open longer.

The “Coast for everyone” promo started on Wednesday. People can stay at designated places along at the seaside at hotels starting at a bargain 36 lei (about 7.5 euros) a night, News.ro reported.

Tourists can choose from 40 hotels which are currently taking part in the scheme.

Cheapest room

In the peak season, the cheapest room is at least 100 lei a night, about 20 euros.

The program was initiated by the Federation of Romanian Tourism Owners. It said the prices were 70% less than during the peak season.

It’s the 39th edition of the promotion.

Full month

“Looking at reservations at this moment, September is going to be a full month, with more hotel rooms booked than in 2019,” a statement said.

More Romanians have taken breaks and holidays at the Black Sea since the pandemic started in March 2020.

“Interest shown by tourists has meant hoteliers are interested in keeping open until the end of September,” said Dragoş Răducan, the federation’s deputy official.

Saturn

The cheapest hotel is a 2-star establishment in the less pricey resort of Saturn which is popular with families on a budget.

Bed and breakfast there costs 72 lei a night for two people, with a minimum stay of five days.

The federation groups more than 5,300 tourism companies, which employ almost 74,000 people. That’s 37% of all the employees in the hospitality sector.

They have an turnover of 5 billion euros.
