Iohannis, the next Ursula?

Ursula von der Leyen may or may not have a second mandate as president of the European Commission.

She is running for a second term, but may be replaced, after a rollercoaster ride of a mandate involving COVID, Ukraine, and Gaza.

Europe has in the meantime recalibrated itself politically, going independent or sometimes towards quite the right.

Some sources say that the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, has excellent chances at being the next president of the European Commission.

Other options include Mario Draghi, Roberta Metsola, Christine Lagarde, Andrej Plenković, and Thierry Breton, Politico reports.

Elections will take place in June.
