Moldova’s government on Wednesday approved an information system that allows motorists to register when they want to cross the border from neighboring Romania, News.ro reported.

The government says the new system will reduce delays and truck stops at border crossings, which can sometimes last for more than seven days, creating disruptions in supply chains.

At the same time, the system will help to reorient exports and transport to border crossing points with Romania and use Moldova’s territory for the transit of goods from/to Ukraine, especially for cereals.

Motorists and truck drivers will be e able to schedule their exact border crossing time, by registering in a virtual queue, before starting out. This will allow a more efficient allocation of financial and human resources, reducing travel and border crossing time.

The Moldovan government approved on Wednesday the Regulation on the functioning of the system and the programming rules at border crossing points NewsMaker said.

The project will be implemented in several stages, with the technical and financial support of the USAID MISRA Program, and prior programming at the state border crossing points will be available from the beginning of 2024.
