New book by Romanian visionary Ion Rațiu to be launched at Bookfest Bucharest 2026

Ratio et Revelatio Publishing House on Friday announced the launch of Today’s Romania. Its Place in World Relations, by Ion Rațiu, the late Romania politician who in 1990, ran for Romania’s first post-communist presidential elections. The event will take place on June 6, at the Bookfest International Book Fair, Romexpo, Pavilion B2, at the Arca Stage.

The launch is loaded with a strong symbolic meaning, taking place on the very day of the 109th anniversary of the birth of the great Romanian politician, who spent most of his life in exile. The event will take place in the presence of his son, Nicolae C. Rațiu, a press release sent to Universul.net said.

The book brings to the public’s attention Ion Rațiu’s visionary reflections on Romania’s positioning in the international context of those years. The publication of this work also explains the reason why Ion Rațiu was a constant target of the communist regime. Starting with 1974, when the authorities in Bucharest found out that the text had been finalized, the Securitate launched through the Foreign Intelligence Directorate one of the most complex and persistent monitoring and sabotage operations. The regime considered the volume to be deeply denigrating to the realities in the country and, especially, to Nicolae Ceaușescu.”

The new edition is translated into Romanian by Otniel-Laurean Vereș and has an extensive preface written by the historian Stejărel Olaru.

The debate around the book will bring together prominent public personalities from  academic world.

These are the speakers:

  • Nicolae C. Rațiu – president of the Rațiu Foundation and the Ratiu Democracy Centre
  • Dennis Deletant – renowned historian and specialist in Romanian history
  • Stejărel Olaru – a well-known historian and political scientist, the editor of several of Ion Rațiu’s works, including the first five volumes of  his Diary
  • Samuel Marușca – adviser to the UK Government, historian and researcher at the University of London

The discussion will be moderated by Otniel-Laurean Vereș, director of the Ratio et Revelatio publishing house.
