Prime Minister lie Bolojan who was dismissed by Parliament this week in a no-confidence vote on Saturday told supporters that it was a ‘tough fight’  to modernize Romania which preserved ‘deep roots of communism’

“For years, a power mechanism with deep roots in communism has survived in Romania, a system in which some advanced through personal connections, not competence, in which state resources served networks of influence, not people,” Bolojan wrote on Facebook.

“Today, this system is reacting. Because the reforms (I made) cut off its privileges and sources of power. That is why the modernization of Romania is a hard fight,” he said.

Two hours after his post, he had over 25,000 likes, over 2,800 comments, many positive, and 1,400 reshares.

The Liberal leader who lost the confidence vote after a motion submitted by the center-elft and far-right on May 5 also addressed people who will take part in the demonstration “One Way – Europe”, organized on Saturday, in downtown Bucharest on the occasion of Europe Day.

“I thank all those who take to the streets today for democratic values. Even if I am not in Bucharest, I am with them and with all those who believe in a European and a  modern and just Romania. Democracy does not defend itself once every few years. It defends itself  every single day,” he said.

Bolojan’s popularity soared after the vote. His Liberal Party has said it will not be part of teh future government.
