Pro-Palestine rally in Romanian capital

A few hundred people took part in a pro-Palestinian rally on Saturday in the Romanian capital.

Participants waved flags and shouted: „Stop the genocide,” expressing their solidarity with the Palestinians. People held banners calling for an end to the conflict and chanting „Stop the war!”, „Down with the occupation!”, „Down with Israel”, „Freedom! We want justice!” and „Free Palestine.”

The rally started in University Square in Bucharest at 12:30, and supporters laid a wreath at the monument dedicated to the heroes of the 1989 Revolution in memory of the Palestinians who died in the conflict that started last month.

They carried placards with messages written in Romanian and English, such as „Palestinian people demand an end to occupation,” „One Holocaust does not justify another,” and „Stop the massacre of innocents.”

Palestinian supporters claimed Israel is „killing children, women, mercilessly” clainming it was a „series” of events against Palestinians.

„We are all praying here that this will be the last episode of this show, that this carnage will end. May there be peace for all, we are tired of wars! We don’t say good afternoon, or good evening, or good morning or good evening, we say Salam Alaikum, let there be peace, that’s our greeting,” a protester said.

There were pro-Palestinian demonstrations in other cities around the world on Saturday. Protesters denounced Israeli strikes on Gaza and called for a cease-fire.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday rejected calls for a temporary halt to his country’s attacks on Gaza unless hostages held by Hamas militants are freed.

He was speaking after a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who called for the humanitarian pause during a visit to Israel. Blinken is also meeting Arab leaders from Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan today.
