Romania has been named the special guest country at the 2026 Cairo International Book Fair.

This year’s edition will last from January 24 to February 6 and will take place at the International Exhibition Center in New Cairo.

This coincides with 120 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Egypt, reports Romania Insider.

Romania’s stand will be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Foreign Languages, the Romanian Cultural Institute, and the Romanian Embassy in Cairo.

Last year the fair hosted over 3.5 million participants, seeing a huge influx of visitors.

The Cairo International Book Fair is the largest and oldest book fair in the Arab publishing world. It’s also comparable to the Frankfurt Book Fair in size. It was founded by the General Egyptian Book Organization, which is the largest book publisher in the Arab world and state-owned. It has seen controversy in previous years for “disparaging religion” and promoting literature “offensive to public morals”.
