Romania condemns Palestinian assault on Israel

Romania has condemned Palestinian attacks on Israel.

„Romania strongly condemns this morning’s (Oct. 7) rocket attacks against Israel. We are in full solidarity with Israel in these terrible moments. Our thoughts are with the families of victims and with those who are under fire,” President Klaus Iohannis wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry also condemned Hamas rocket attacks on the territory of the State of Israel, including against civilians and and hostage-taking.

More than 1,500 people have been killed since the Hamas militant group  launched a dawn surprise assault on Israel from Gaza,  leading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare „we are at war.”

A Romanian man who also had Israeli citizenship and served in the the Israeli Defense Forces was killed in the attacks, the Romanian foreign ministry said.

More than 250 of the dead were Israelis who came under attack at a music festival near the border with Gaza when militants opened fire on the crowd.

Israeli officials also say Hamas fighters captured more than 100  hostages including women, children and elderly people, who were apparently taken into Gaza as captives.

Romania has brought back 346 tourists, Romanians and foreigners, were brought to Bucharest from Israel by two Tarom flights. Another 115 Romanian tourists were repatriated on Sunday.

The Romanian health ministry announced on Monday that doctors and nurses who want to volunteer to join medical teams in Israel can sign up at a ministry site.
