Simona Halep, the 2019 Wimbledon champion, has deuted her new relationship with Romanian businessman Dorin Mateiu at the women’s finals of Wimbledon in the royal box.
It was the first official outing of Halep, 34, and Mateiu, 58, following paparazzi snaps of the pair on the upmarket Greek resort of Mykonos last month.
The couple were in SW19 on Saturday for the final between Czech players. Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova which Noscova won 6–2, 5–7, 6–3.
Son of Romanian businessman Ion Tiriac, Alexandru Tiriac posted a picture, of the couple in the Royal Box in the row behind Princess of Wales, Catherine Middleton and all-time tennis great, Martina Navratilova. Halep then reposted.
It came a month after their vacation to Mykonos.
The post read: ”Simona Halep, you made it!”.
”Too cool, too classy, two rivals and a Queen, in the most unique setting in the world,”Țiriac jr, wrote referring to Halep and former Russian player Maria Sharapova.
Showing her approval, Halep shared the post.
She then posted on Instagram.
„Truly honoured to be back. My favourite Saturday of the tournament.
Thank you @wimbledon for such a memorable day and for another unforgettable experience.
To be part of this club and to return as a member is an honour beyond words. Wimbledon will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
Simona Halep was a guest in the royal box as a former Wimbledon winner.
The former world number 1 also won another Grand Slam title, Roland Garros 2018.
In total, she won 24 WTA trophies and earned $40.2 million from tennis and was no. 1 for 64 weeks. She retied in Feb. 2025 after losing to Lucia Bronzetti, 1-6, 1-6, at the Transylvania Open.
Her partner, Dorin Mateiu, is a businessman who has stayed out of the limelight.
He is considered a key player in the Romanian food industry market in Romania earning the nickname “King of the Cold Cuts”.
In recent years, he has focused mainly on real estate investments, and has an estimated fortune of 65-70 million euros, according to Romanian media reports.
