Romania deported a total of 916 people in the first nine months of this year of which 258 of were Bangladeshi nationals.
InfoMigrants reported that the General Inspectorate for Immigration provided statistics on Oct. 22 on migrants deported to their home countries.
Romania has seen a growing number of migrants crossing its borders en route to wealthier western European countries. Many have traveled via the Balkan route, hoping to enter Hungary and the Schengen zone, where free movement is theoretically allowed.
Romania and Bulgaria joined the Schengen air space on March 31, but border controls remain. Travelers can now fly out of Romania with fewer checks than in non-Schengen EU nations.
Some migrants arrived in EU-member Romania for work, with valid visas, but later decided to seek better opportunities in more affluent regions.
