Romania hit by extreme weather

Romania is experiencing a spell of extreme weather as a heatwave hit central and eastern parts, with thunderstorms forecast for western Romania.

The National Meteorological Administration issued an amber warning for the scorching temperatures in Bucharest and eastern Romania on Thursday though to Friday evening.

Temperatures will climb to a maximum of 29 to 39 Celsius.

Forecasters issued an orange weather warning of severe weather in western Romania. Scorching temperatures will be accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstones.

Torrential rain will bring more than 25 to 40 of water per square meters in some places, forecasters said.

Weather forecasters said cooler weather will be back next week.
