Romania is Europe! A call from civil society for Romania’s European future, in a public manifesto

At a time marked by challenges and attacks against democratic values, when the voices of the far right are becoming more and more aggressive as they attempt to divert Romania from its European path, Romanian civil society is standing up to reaffirm clearly and resoundingly: Romania is Europe!

In the run-up to the presidential elections in May, 36 civil society organizations and 41 opinion leaders, activists, experts and professionals from various fields have signed a Manifesto for Europe, a firm commitment to European values and a call to mobilization for all those who believe in a democratic, free and prosperous future for Romania.

This manifesto is not just a declaration of principles, but an alarm signal in the face of extremists’ temptations and the real risk of Romania’s isolation.

The European Union has been and remains the only guarantee for freedom, economic progress and security.

Any attempt to depart from this historic path does not mean sovereignty, but weakness; it does not mean independence, but vulnerability to influences which do not respect the rights and aspirations of the Romanian citizens.

Our Manifesto opens the series of events organized by EuRo Manifest on March 15, both in Bucharest and in other cities in the country and in the European diaspora. The list of signatures remains open for all those who support Romania’s European future.

Romania is and will remain part of the European Union. This is our choice, that of its citizens, and our voice must be heard now, louder than ever!

We are attaching the manifesto in Romanian, English and French for dissemination in the national and international press, as well as to the embassies of EU countries, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, Australia, the USA and Ukraine.
