A group of air targets were detected on Tuesday near Romania’s border with Ukraine and a RO-Alert message was issued in the Danube Delta area.
“The defense ministry’s radar surveillance system detected on Tuesday at 09:52, a group of air targets at a distance of about 20 km east of Snake Island, Ukraine,” the ministrt reported.
Two Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft of the Italian Air Force from the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, located in the Air Police Combat Service, took off at 10:25 a.m., to monitor the situation, it said.
The National Military Command Center (nucleus) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the establishment of alert measures for the population in the north of Tulcea County, a RO-Alert message being sent at 10:29 a.m.
“No unauthorized violations of the national space or cases of impact with the ground of any aerial vehicle have been reported. The air alert ended at 11:05 a.m.,” the MApN announces.
15 drone penetrations in Romania in 2026
Since 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine, more than 100 attacks have been recorded on targets near the border with Romania.
“In this context, 29 unauthorized penetrations of Russian drones into the national airspace were reported and drones or fragments of drones were identified on the territory of Romania in about 50 situations,” the ministry said recently.
In 2026 alone, 35 attacks were recorded near the border, and, as a measure to protect and monitor the airspace, aircraft in the air police service were seized in 28 situations.
“This year, 15 unauthorized penetrations of drones into the national airspace were recorded and drones or fragments of drones were identified on the territory of Romania in 14 situations,” the MApN recently announced.
