Romania is taking steps to level the retirement age of both sexes, which has a standard retirement age of 65 for men and 61 for women.
In line with the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, Romania is preparing to have its laws reflect a unified retirement age of 65 for both men and women from 2035.
The minimum contribution period required for both sexes is 15 years, with a full contribution period of 35 years for both women and men.
Employees who wish to continue working after retirement can work until 70 if they have their employer’s consent.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu wants the new pension law to take effect on 1 January 2024.
