Romania reports more than 1,400 new cases of coronavirus for 3rd consecutive day

Romania on Friday announced 1,415 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past day, and 44 deaths from the virus in the same period.

Almost 23,000 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours and a further 4,873 tests which were done previously were also reported Friday, the Strategic Communication Group said.

It was the third day in a row when there have been more than 1,400 cases. Thursday saw a record high of 1,454 cases.

The Romanian capital recorded 172 new infections, the same number as Thursday, and there were 78 new cases in Prahova, a region where there are a number of mountain tourist resorts popular with tourists.

Some 473 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units out of a total of 7,431 Covid-19 patients in hospital.

The death count now stands at 2,904.

In the last day, 29 men and 15 women died, of which one patient was in their 30s, five were in their 40s, and four were in their 50s. Bar one, they all had pre-existent health conditions such as cancer diabetes, or heart problems.

There are some 8,800 people currently in self-isolation at home and another 5,179 in institutionalized isolation. A further 24,859 people are in quarantine due to localized outbreaks.


Some 32,000 patients have recovered and 7,500 patients with no symptoms have left hospital after 10 days.
