Romania on Tuesday reported a nearly four-month high of 4,044 new Covid cases and nine deaths for the past day amid a surge in new infections.
Bucharest had 931 cases and an infection rate of 3 per 1,000 inhabitants, the highest rate in the country.
It was the highest number since March 23 when there were 4,521 new cases,
Some 1,451 patients were being treated in hospital including 187 minors.
Almost 66,000 people have died of the virus since the pandemic started in March 2020.
Seven men and two women died in the past 24 hours, all of which were over 50, and most older than 80. They all had underlying health conditions. Six were unvaccinated and three had been jabbed.
Romanian officials resumed daily Covid reports on Tuesday as infections rose in recent weeks.
Romania switched to weekly Covid-19 reports about a month ago, as new cases fell. Since then, reports have been issued only on Mondays.
But in June, numbers started rising. There were 7,726 new cases from June 27-July 3 and the next week, infections soared to almost 15,000 Health Minister Alexandru Rafila said.
