Romania to deploy infantry company in Kosovo

Romania is about to deploy a new company, as part of the strategic reserve at the disposal of SACEUR, within the NATO KFOR operation in Kosovo, MApN reports.

This takes place as a result of the authorization by the North Atlantic Council regarding the addition of troops for the management of the current situation in the Western Balkans, the same source says.

As a NATO ally and EU member state, Romania committed to contributing troops and equipment to the effort to maintain a stable security environment in the Western Balkans region, ACT Media reports.

The deployment of this company is made in accordance with the provisions of the law regarding the participation of the armed forces in missions and operations outside the territory of the Romanian state, as stipulated by the CSAT Decision no. 225/2022 regarding the approval of the Plan for the use of the troops of the Romanian Army that are sent to missions and operations outside the territory of the Romanian state, in the year 2023.

At the moment, Romania has almost 330 soldiers deployed in the theatres of operations in the Western Balkans, of which approximately 250 in Bosnia and Herzegovina (our country being one of the most important contributors with troops to the EU operation EUFOR ALTHEA in this country, where it plays the role of chief of staff, brigadier general level) and approximately 80 soldiers in Kosovo, in the NATO – KFOR operation.
