Eugeniu Georgescu is a Romanian architect who was persecuted by the communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu for opposing the forced relocation of Orthodox churches to make way for Ceausescu’s meglomaniac building projects.
Universul.net is publishing his appeal to Romanians:
“We Romanians are living one of the most dangerous moments of our times. The future of our country, our future is at stake.
Many of us, have been taken by surprise by a danger that is as treacherous as it is dangerous.
If Russian propaganda is able to disrupt American, European, and global democracy, then our country ROMANIA is an easy target. The ability of Russian propaganda to unbalance democratic societies is enormous. If, we add the hatred we Romanians have for corrupt and irresponsible leaders we’ve had for 35 years, the Russian danger can be fatal.
But there are miracles! Nicusor Dan, was elected president and Ilie Borojan appointed prime minister, and we have a broad ruling coalition, which makes the Romanian people a hero for saving our country’s democracy, as well as an impetus for strengthening European confidence and unity.
At the age of 91, I allow myself to address artists, writers, singers and students as well as the Romanian people to overcome this difficult moment. They have been a constant support and I trust them to support us and show us the right way. I am sure that their power to convince is greater than any politician.
Their task is to wake up those Romanians who have fallen prey to well-paid Russian propaganda.
What does the communism that Putin dreams of mean for us in Romania and beyond, in the whole of Europe!
– Closed borders, land owned by the state, the abolition of villages, a school where socialist realism is taught, fears for our security, poverty, etc.
In 1986, as an architect, I declared a hunger strike in protest against the systematization of villages and the demolition of churches. In 1989 I emigrated to America and in 1995 I returned to Romania. Because I missed my homeland!
I end this appeal with this beautiful saying about our country- ROMANIA IS THE GARDEN OF THE MOTHER OF GOD ”
