Iasi airport will open a new 90-million euro terminal next year which will make it the second-biggest airport in Romania.

Traffic has increased to the airport in Romania’s less developed northeast since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. There has been a major increase in passengers from neighboring Moldova and Ukraine flying from the airport.

The new T4 terminal which will open in Spring 2024 has three floors and covers more than 31,000 square meters. It will be able to handle 3.5 million passengers a year, officials said.

It has seven boarding gates and three air bridges.

It has state-of-the-art equipment for a fast and efficient check-ins and security and a parking lot with 600 spaces and 13 charging stations for electric vehicles.

It also has a 1-hectare solar park.

“Iasi Airport becomes a model of excellence and an engine of socio-economic development for the north-eastern region of Romania,” said Liberal lawmaker Alexandru Muraru who visited the terminal on Friday. “It will open new horizons for travel and business opportunities, connecting Iasi with Europe and the whole world.

The 550 workers are still working on finishes, while the baggage scanning equipment… is being tested by specialists…. Meanwhile, the solar park, an important component of the T4 project, has been commissioned. It has a capacity of 1.3 MWh and provides 20% of the airport’s electricity needs. T4 will become operational next spring, after conducting several tests, simulations and trainings”, Iasi Airport management said in November, Adevarul reported.

Over 2 million passengers passed through Iasi International Airport from Jan-November, with a record 191,000 in October alone.

The increase in passengers is also due to the large number of passengers coming from Moldova and Ukraine.

Iasi Airport originally opened in 1926.

Travel to Brasov will be easier, with airport bus incoming
