Notoruious social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in Miami after British authorities announced they were bringing further charges against them.
The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Andrew Tate was being charged with seven further counts of rape, as well as other charges relating to alleged crimes including sex trafficking and child pornography, the BBC reported. It has requested their extradition. The brothers have dual US and UK citizenship.
Tristan Tate has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The alleged offending is said to have taken place between July 2010 and August 2017. The Tates have previously denied any wrongdoing.
Andrew Tate was set to co-host a bareknuckle boxing event when he was detained.
The US Marshals confirmed to the BBC that the Tates had been taken into custody. A US Department of Justice spokesperson said the arrests were “pursuant to extradition proceedings”.
Joseph McBride, a lawyer who represents the Tates, said “the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent” in a statement released after their arrest in Miami late Saturday.
“Their enemies know it best of all. That is exactly why they have been attacked,” McBride added and claimed the new UK charges were a “political hit”.
“We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain’s political dirty work,” he continued.
In May 2025, prosecutors confirmed a list of 21 charges Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 37, will eventually face in the UK. The alleged offenses are said to have taken place between 2012 and 2016.
Andrew and Tristan Tate have been under investigation in Romania since 2022 in a DIICOT case involving allegations of human trafficking, organized crime and sexual exploitation. Prosecutors allege that several women, including minors, were recruited and manipulated through the so-called “loverboy” method before being forced to produce pornographic content. Andrew Tate is additionally under investigation for rape.
In 2024, Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants for the pair to have them returned from Romania, where they are based and are under criminal investigation.
