A meeting between presidents Trump and Zelensky seemed to have gone sour.
A video shows them beginning to argue, with American VP J.D. Vance intervening to reprimand Volodymir Zelensky for not showing enough appreciation or respect towards Trump, and suggesting that he should indeed be thanking him, after Zelensky said that Ukraine has been alone in all of this.
President Zelensky made an ominous comment about what America will one day feel.
“You have a nice ocean, and don’t feel now but you will feel it in the future”.
The American representatives reacted poorly to this suggestion.
“I’ve made you a tough guy”, replied Trump.
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. You’re in no position to dictate that”, Trump protested. Clearly this was a sensitive point for Trump as he has made it his ambition to be responsible for negotiating a peace deal.
“You don’t have the cards right now”, “said Trump. “You’re gambling with millions of lives.”
“You’re either gonna make a deal or we’re out”, Trump threatened, as Zelensky also began to raise his voice.
It was a meeting intended to discuss the end of the war in Ukraine. Trump posted on X that Zelensky should come back “when he is ready for peace”. Zelensky left the White House (possibly after being told to do so) and did not show up to the press conference.
Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington was seen holding her head in her hands.
Zelensky later gave an interview on Fox News stating his respect for Trump and saying that the relationship could surely be salvaged.
