Tiny 11 sq meter flat in Romania goes on sale for 37,500 euros

A micro apartment that has become a symbol of Romania’s red-hot real estate market is on sale for an eye-watering 37,499 euros, making it possibly the most expensive studio flat in the country, per square meter or foot.

The studio, located in the Transylvanian city of Cluj, has been the butt of jokes and  subject of debate in Romania  for the past week.

It was spotted on Feb. 6 when it was posted as a 200-euros a month rent opportunity. The Facebook post garnered 58,000 comments.

Now, the owner is seeking to cash in on its fame and has put it on the market, Stiri de Cluj reported on Wednesday.

That works out at 3,409 euros a square meter, making it one if not the most expensive properties for that segment of the Romanian real estate market.

New studio flats in north Bucharest, generally considered the most place for property area in Romania, range from 1,600 to 2,500 euros a meter.

New, smaller properties have become more popular in Romania in the past year as energy prices soar. They are also considered a good investment as they are easy to rent and sell.

Location is (almost) everything. The property is in the Gheorgheni district of Cluj, a  residential area with parks and a lake in the eastern part of the city.

It’s close to public transport routes, and advertised as “ideal for investment, (can be) rented out,” the real estate site said.

Naturally, it is furnished in minimalist style. Utility costs are low, the owner adds.

“It’s so small, you won’t have room to faint if you fall ill,” one person wrote. “Can you pick it up from Easybox?” another commented.
