The Transfăgărășan or DN7C is a famous paved mountain road crossing the southern section of the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. In the winter, it poses an avalanche risk.
CNAIR, the Romanian company that manages the road infrastructure, has announced that the Transfăgărășan road has closed for traffic on the section from Piscu Negru (km 104) to Bâlea Cascadă (km 130.8) due to bad weather conditions.
The closure came after reports of sub-zero temperatures ranging from -3°C to -11°C, combined with sleet and snow, which create dangerous driving conditions.
The closed section will be marked with appropriate signage, reminding drivers and tourists of the restrictions.
DN67C – Transalpina, between Ranca and Curpat, also closed from bad weather conditions yesterday.
